Description
Protect your little ball thing from marauding enemies by using two differently coloured bullets: red for attack and blue for defence. Think of it as kind of like a static Asteroids.
Author’s explanation
“Well, You use 2 colors, red and blue, as primary weapons to clearing the game, based on attacking and defending respectively. Certain colors are used to determine which actions the player should take (block green bullets with blue shots). Oh, and the background changes color every so often.”
Dan’s comments
To me, Color-FULL feels like an old-school arcade game – accessible and minimalist. The frantic pace is punishing, but enjoyable, and is enhanced considerably by excellent background music.
It’s an enjoyable game, but I think it would be more enjoyable if there was more to do. Since the red bullets track enemies, it sometimes feels like the game is on auto-pilot. I’m not sure how you’d remedy that. I guess maybe it needs different kinds of enemies – like ones that can deflect red bullets back at you, thereby forcing you to be more careful about deploying them. Or something. Also, it would be nice if there was a stronger sense of progression and reward, which I suppose could be achieved with more varied power-ups and backgrounds that change as you reach higher levels. Basically, Colour-FULL needs to be more dynamic. Or at least I think so.
Patrick’s comments
I don’t really know what to say about Color-FULL. It... works? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with it – it’s just not much of a game. The idea is fine; I do appreciate arcade-style simplicity, but Color-FULL needs... something.
Craig was originally working on something more ambitious, but, deciding he couldn’t complete it in time, abandoned it and made a new entry from scratch at the eleventh hour. Getting a game done – even a very simple one – is commendable, I think. Craig, I hope you enter again next year!
