You may have noticed that Eegra hasn't been updating much lately. The reason for this is straightforward enough: we can't afford to. From talking to you guys via email and on the forums, we get the impression that many of you think Eegra is a hobbyist blog that Dan and Patrick run in their spare time. It's not. Eegra is a business. Right now, with ad revenue (scrunchies!) and the occasional t-shirt sale, we don't generate sufficient income to guarantee our continued existence.
We are currently in the process of courting potential investors, and though initial responses have been encouraging, this whole global recession thing has made the process a little longer than we expected. In the meantime, what we need is a little interim cash - enough to maintain a reduced update schedule until we secure more substantial financial support. This is where you come in.
Basically, we'd like to know if you're willing to spend money to save Eegra. If you're not, that's cool. We understand cash is tight now, and we know that frivolous gaming blogs aren't exactly high on most people's list of priorities. Totally understand. And, hey, even if you can afford to give us money but simply don't want to - well, that's okay too. Assuming you see something you like, maybe you can click an ad or two? We've gone to a great deal of effort to ensure we don't run terrible ads on this site, and though we've made a couple of mistakes in that respect, it's unlikely that clicking on – or even just un-blocking – our banners will destroy your internets. I'm just sayin'.
But enough about the non-spendy types. Here's a question for those of you who are willing and able to support us financially: how would you like to do it? We've already had a few ideas.
- Donations! This is the most obvious route, though probably the least attractive from your perspective. But let's say we did put a PayPal donation button on the sidebar there - would you use it?
- T-shirts! Let's say we made a T-shirt with something from the Hilarity Comics - would you guys be interested in buying them? We could even do a pre-order poll of sorts, meaning that we'd put up a bunch of designs for you to choose from, and only the most popular ones would end up getting produced.
- Hilarity Comic prints! Pretty self-explanatory – high-quality prints of your favourite Hilarity Comics. (Patrick is very particular about this sort of thing, so you can expect they'd be classy.)
- Other things! There are a few other ideas we've been tossing around: custom comics, selling virtual shares, prostitution. At this point, we're more or less open to anything, so if you have a suggestion, then please – let us know.
As you can see, we've set up a new poll with options for all of the above. If you have the time, we'd appreciate your vote. Or you can just email us your views directly, if that's what you prefer. Whatever the case, we look forward to hearing your thoughts.
